2013 Business & Community Excellence Awards



On Sat Nov 03 2012, the Clinton and District Kinsmen Club was featured prominently as both past and present members where nominated for and were the recipients of many honours, as the BIA hosted a very successful inaugural Business & Community Excellence Awards.

In 5 categories there were 34 nominations:


· Healthy Communities Award, sponsored by Clinton Raceway, which is dedicated to a community member, community organization or business that goes the extra mile to get involved in programs, activities or business that makes the Municipality of Central Huron a healthier, more active, environmentally friendly community to live, work and play:

          Nominees were, Clinton Chiropractic, Clinton Kinsmen               ,

           PA Roy Insurance, and United Communities Credit Union


         Winner was Clinton Kinsmen











· Retail, Trade and Professional, sponsored by Clinton Kinsmen               , is to reward the efforts and successes of a business operating as a retail merchant, trade or professional business in Central Huron: 

           Nominees were, Bartiff’s Bakery, Clinton Raceway, Groves TV and Appliances,

           Marita’s Fashion Boutique, MP Russo & Associates, Clinton Convenience,            Greyhaven Gardens, Hayter & Associates, Moore’s Foodland and Per-Fect Designs


           Winner was Moore’s Foodland











· Lifetime Achievement, sponsored by Groves TV and Appliances, will be given to a business owner who has operated their business more than 15 years within the Municipality of Central Huron with exceptional operational success, providing leadership, mentorship and motivation to other entrepreneurs in this community: 

           Nominees were, Bill Fleming, Gary Merner, John Alilovic and Michael Russo


           Winner is Bill Fleming                (posthumously)













· Citizen of the Year, sponsored by United Communities Credit Union, goes to an employee and/or community member who goes beyond their usual role, who is community-minded, and known for their support, commitment and dedication to making Central Huron a more vibrant, prosperous and welcoming community: 

           Nominees were, Steve Campbell               , Glenn Hayter, Matt Langendoen               ,

           Jim Ginn, Dave Hanley               , and Jeff Roy


          Winner was Steve Campbell












· Business of the Year, sponsored by Huron Small Business Enterprise Centre, recognizes a Central Huron business that demonstrates excellence in a number of areas, including particular skill in taking their business forward and support of the local community while demonstrating economic sustainability: 

           Nominees were, B&M Fine Furniture, Fleming Feed Mill, Lil’s Kitchen,

           Clinton Family Health Team, Lavis Contracting, PA Roy Insurance,

           United Communities Credit Union and VanDriel Excavating


          Winner was Lavis Construction Co. Ltd.







· Outstanding BIA Champion, has continually gone above the call of duty as a BIA member and community champion. Their commitment and leadership style has contributed significantly in re-energizing the BIA enough to get it from where it was two or three years ago to celebrating a series of successful initiatives, charting exciting new directions and planning for a great future:
